Son of JACOB and Leah.

Num. 3: 6, 15, 17 6 Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him. 15 Number the children of Levi after the house of their fathers, by their families: every male from a month old and upward shalt thou number them. • • • 17 And these were the sons of Levi by their names; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari.

1 Kgs. 5: 13-14 13 And king Solomon raised a alevy out of all Israel; and the blevy was thirty thousand men. 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and aAdoniram was over the levy.

1 Chr. 23: 6, 14, 24 6 And David divided them into acourses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. • • • 14 Now concerning aMoses the man of God, his bsons were named of the tribe of Levi. • • • 24 ¶ These were the sons of aLevi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by bnumber of names by their cpolls, that did the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from the age of twenty years and upward.

Ex. 6: 16, 19 16 And these are the names of the sons of aLevi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred thirty and seven years. • • • 19 And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the bfamilies of Levi according to their generations.

Gen. 34: 25, 30 25 ¶ And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, aSimeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males. • • • 30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

Ex. 2: 1 1 And there went a man of the house of aLevi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

Ex. 32: 26, 28 26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the Lord’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. • • • 28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

Num. 17: 3, 8 3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers. • • • 8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

Num. 18: 2, 21 2 And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be ajoined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness. • • • 21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an ainheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Num. 26: 59 59 And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.

Deut. 10: 8-9 8 ¶ At that time the Lord aseparated the tribe of bLevi, to cbear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to dbless in his name, unto this day. 9 Wherefore aLevi hath no bpart nor inheritance with his brethren; the Lord is his cinheritance, according as the Lord thy God promised him.

Josh. 13: 14, 33 14 Only unto the tribe of Levi he gave none ainheritance; the sacrifices of the Lord God of Israel made by fire are their inheritance, as he said unto them. • • • 33 But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any ainheritance: the Lord God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.

1 Kgs. 9: 15, 21 15 ¶ And this is the reason of the alevy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and bMillo, and the cwall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer. • • • 21 Their achildren that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bbondservice unto this day.

Ezra 8: 15, 18 15 And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi. • • • 18 And by the good ahand of our God upon us they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

Mal. 2: 4, 8 4 And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my acovenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts. • • • 8 But ye are adeparted out of the way; ye have caused many to bstumble at the law; ye have ccorrupted the dcovenant of Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.

Luke 5: 27, 29 27 ¶ And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named aLevi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me. • • • 29 And Levi made him a great feast in his own house: and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down with them.

Heb. 7: 5, 9 5 And verily they that are of the sons of aLevi, who receive the boffice of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham: • • • 9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

Ether 1: 20-21 20 And Corom was the son of Levi. 21 And Levi was the son of Kim.

Ether 10: 14-15 14 And his brother did rise up in rebellion against him, by which he did bring him into acaptivity; and he did remain in captivity all his days; and he begat sons and daughters in captivity, and in his old age he begat Levi; and he died. 15 And it came to pass that Levi did serve in captivity after the death of his father, for the space of forty and two years. D&C 124: 39, 138 39 Therefore, verily I say unto you, that your anointings, and your washings, and your baptisms for the dead, and your solemn assemblies, and your dmemorials for your sacrifices by the sons of Levi, and for your oracles in your most holy places wherein you receive conversations, and your statutes and judgments, for the beginning of the revelations and foundation of Zion, and for the glory, honor, and endowment of all her municipals, are ordained by the ordinance of my holy house, which my people are always commanded to build unto my holy name.

Gen. 29: 34 34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

Rev. 7: 7 7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.

3 Ne. 24: 3 3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall apurify the bsons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may coffer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

D&C 13: 1 1 Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I aconfer the bPriesthood of Aaron, which holds the ckeys of the ministering of dangels, and of the gospel of erepentance, and of fbaptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of gLevi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in hrighteousness.

THE SONS OF LEVI TO RECEIVE A FUTURE ASSIGNMENT

D&C 128: 24 24 Behold, the great day of the Lord is at hand; and who can abide the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap; and he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness. Let us, therefore, as a church and a people, and as Latter-day Saints, offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness; and let us present in his holy temple, when it is finished, a book containing the records of our dead, which shall be worthy of all acceptation.

JS-H 1: 69 69 Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in erighteousness.
