George Aldrich and Katherine Seald

HUSBAND:
George ALDRICH. (Aldridge). [PC M3-3].
Born in September 1605 (in Little Berkhampstead, Hertfordshire, England-S2)(He was of Derbyshire, England-S1,S3,S4,S5); son of George ALDRICH and Joan THURGOOD.

The name was spelled Aldridge and Oldridge in the early records, and some branches of the family still prefer the spelling Aldridge, but the Rhode Island family and the descendants in Worcester county, Massachusetts, have for many generations adopted the spelling Aldrich. {S3}.

George Aldrich was a tailor. {S3,S4}.

He married Katherine SEALD on 3 (SEP-S1,S4,S6)(NOV-S2,S3) 1629 at Derby, Derbyshire, England.

They came to New England in November 1631 (1636-S6) probably on the ship Lyon, first settling in Dorchester, Massachusetts. {S3,S4}.

They were members of the Dorchester Congregational church. {S4}.

On 24 February 1640, he was granted a 20-acre parcel of land in Mt. Wollaston, which became Braintree that same year. {S3}.

In 1663 they moved to the region which was incorporated four years later as Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. George and his family were among the seven proprietor families of Mendon. The family may have moved to Swansea for a few years, returning to Mendon by 1680. {S3}.

His will was written on 2 November 1682 at Mendon, Worchester County, Massachusetts. {S3}.

He died on 1 March 1683 at Mendon (Braintree-S6), Worchester County, Massachusetts; and was buried on 2 March 1683 in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

His will was proved on 26 April 1683:

Will of George Aldrich, Mendon
In the Name of God Amen, George Aldrich be weake in body but of sound understanding dispose of my Estate as followeth.

Item. I leave my house & Land and whole Estate with my beloved wife during her life.

Item. I give to my daughter Mary Aldrich, Sarah Bartlett, and Mercy Randall and Martha Dunbar twelve pence apeice to be paid by my Executrix.

Item. I give all my wearing Clothes to my eldest Son Joseph Aldrich

Item. I give to my Son John Aldrich all my Bookes after my wifes decease.

Item. I give to my grand Child John Aldrich, Son of Joseph Aldrich thirty shillings upon condition that he live with his grand mother during her life according to his fathers promiss.

Item. I give to my youngest Son Jacob Aldrich all my Lands after my wifes decease. Its hereby intended all my Land laid out or to be laid out with all rights and priviledges thereto belonging.

~ I make my beloved wife sole Executrix of my whole Estate. ~ I make my Son Jacob Aldrich Over Seer of this my will. Dated Mendon the second day of Novembr. 1682.

A tablet in Founders' Park in Mendon lists George Aldrich among the proprietors. {S3}

WIFE:
Katherine SEALD. (Katherine-S2)(Catherine-S6). [PC M3-3].
On 3 September ???? Katherine made a deposition that she was born in England in 1610. On 8 June 1670 she made a deposition that she was sixty years old. (S8).

She is said to be of Derbyshire, England (S2,S4).

She married George ALDRICH on 3 (SEP-S1,S4)(NOV-S2) 1629 at Derby, Derbyshire, England. She died on 11 January 1691 -1692 at Mendon, Worchester County, Massachusetts; and was buried in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

CHILDREN of George ALDRICH and Katherine SEALD:
  1. Abel ALDRICH. b: June 06, 1633 in Dorchester, Northfork, Massachusetts. He died (in 1701-S)(in 1683-S8).
  2. Joseph ALDRICH. Born on 4 June 1635 in Dorchester, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He married Patience OSBORNE, daughter of John Osborne and Mary Knight, on 26 February 1660-1661)(1662-S8) in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, Patience was born 1642 in Braintree. They were Congregational. They moved to Rhode Island about 1668. Joseph and Patience had seven children. They are the ancestors of Senator Aldrich, and of the Rhode Island Aldrich family. He died on 24 April 1701 in Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island.
  3. Mary ALDRICH. Born on 16 June 1637 in Dorchester, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She died after 1683, unmarried, in Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts.
  4. Miriam ALDRICH. Born (20-S4)(29-S2,S8) June 1639 in (Braintree-S2)(Dorchester-S4), Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She died 27 January 1640 in Dorchester, Norfolk, Massachusetts; and was buried at Braintree.
  5. Experience ALDRICH. Born on 4 September 1641 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She died on 2 February 1642 in (Dorchester)(Braintree-S3,S4), Norfolk County, Massachusetts.
  6. John ALDRICH. Born on 2 April 1644 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He married (1) Sarah Thompson, daughter of John Thompson and Sarah Hayward, on 9 June 1670 in Mendon (Worcester) Massachusetts. Sarah was born 1646 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts. They were Congregational. John and Sarah T. had three children. Sarah died 25 Feb 1678/77 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. He married (2) Sarah Leach, daughter of Giles Leach and Ann Nokes, on 31 Oct 1678 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts. Sarah was born 13 Nov 1657 in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. They were Congregational. John and Sarah L. had five children. He died on 2 April 1685 in Bridgewater (Plymouth) Massachusetts.
  7. Sarah ALDRICH. Born on 16 January 1645-1646 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She married John BARTLETT, the son of Richard Bartlett in 1665 in Braintree. John Bartlett was born about 1644 in Massachusetts, and died 17 August 1684 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts. They were Congregational. Sarah and John had eight children. She died on 17 February 1685 in Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.
  8. Peter ALDRICH. Born on 14 April 1648 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He married Mehitabel Swazey, the daughter of John Swazey, in 1682 in Mattituck, Suffolk County, New York. Mehitabel was born 1648 in Mattituck. They were Congregational. Peter and Mehitabel had three children. He died before 20 May 1702 in Shelter Island, Suffolk County, New York.
  9. Mercy ALDRICH. Born on 17 April 1650 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She married John RANDALL, son of Robert Randall and Mary. John died in 1718. She died on 26 September 1702 in Massachusetts.
  10. Miriam ALDRICH. born on 10 June 1651 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She died 16 March 1652 in Braintree, Norfolk, Massachusetts.
  11. Jacob ALDRICH. [PC M3-3]. Born on 28 February 1652-1653 at Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He married Huldah THAYER on 3 November 1675 at Medfield, Worchester County, Massachusetts. Huldah was born 16 Jun 1657 in Braintree (Norfolk) Massachusetts, and died about 1707 in Massachusetts. Jacob and Huldah are Congregational. Jacob and Huldah had twelve children. He died on 22 October 1695 at Mendon, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Jacob died without a will, leaving an estate of 267 pounds (about $30,000 today). They had difficulty dividing the estate, so the farm was sold to oldest son Jacob for 183 pounds.
  12. Martha ALDRICH. (spelled Mattithiah by the recording clerk.) Born on (7)(10-S8) July 1656 in Braintree, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. She married John DUNBAR, the son of Robert Dunbar and Rose, on 4 July 1679 in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. John was born 1 Dec 1657 in Hingham (Plymouth) Massachusetts, and died in 1733. Martha and John had seven children.
