John Adams and Alys

HUSBAND:
John ADAMS. [PC M4-23-1].
Born about 1500-1505; son of Robert ADAMS. He was of Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.

He married Alys in 1530.

He died before 1542-1543, as he is not listed in the Subsidy Rolls for 1542 and 1543. No record has survived of his death or the settlement of his estate. (S3).

WIFE:
Alys (Alice). [PC M4-23-2].
Born about 1505 at Barton St. David, Somersetshire, England.

She married John ADAMS in 1530.

The Subsidy Rolls of Somersetshire for 1542 and 1543 list Alys Adams, widow, owning taxable property in the shape of goods. This seems to establish conclusively that the family were copyholders of the manor and not freeholders. This Alys Adams is assumed to be the widow of John Adams. (S3).
